Fortress Gate "Kunt Kapu"

The fortress gate "Kyunt Kapu" was one of the five gates of the fortress in the city of Ruse until the 19th century. According to the clauses of the Berlin Peace Treaty of 1878, all fortresses in the Principality of Bulgaria were destroyed. Only this gate and its iron-clad door have been preserved from the Ruschuk Fortress. It is believed that this is how the doors of the Bulgarian medieval gates looked.

"Kyuntu Kapu" literally means "The Gate with the Pipe".

A pipeline - "kyunt" - passed by the fortress gate, which was once part of the city's water supply system.
