The house, which houses the exposition of the Urban Lifestyle Museum, was built in the 1860s and initially served as a Prussian consulate. On the first floor, temporary exhibitions present various collections from the museum's funds, illustrating the city's developed trade and cultural ties with Europe, as well as the new cultural models of celebration and everyday life that were quickly adopted by the people of Ruse. The second floor of the house presents an exemplary interior of a wealthy city home with characteristic rooms - a guest lounge, a music lounge for home concerts, the hostess's room, and a bedroom. They are furnished with furniture imported from Austria and Germany, and the decoration of numerous objects made of porcelain, glass, silver, and mother-of-pearl "tells" not only about the developed trade ties but also about the financial capabilities of the wealthy Ruse families.
The Urban Lifestyle Museum was opened to visitors in 1987. This is the first ethnographic museum in our country to present urban (bourgeois) culture. It is also known as the House of Calliope. Urban myths say that the beautiful Calliope was the mistress of Midhat Pasha.
