Regional Museum of History

The museum was opened in January 1902 as a museum collection at the Knyaz Boris I Boys' High School. In 1952 it was declared a district museum, and since July 2000 it has been a regional museum. The museum's fund contains 130,000 pieces of cultural value. It develops its activities in terms of the preservation and exhibition of movable cultural values, tangible and intangible cultural heritage, and the study of the history and nature of Northeastern Bulgaria.

Now the Regional Historical Museum - Ruse presents nine exhibitions, three open-air - the Roman fortress "Sexaginta Prista", the Ivanovo rock churches, and the Medieval town of Cherven. The permanent exhibition of the Historical Museum is located in the building of the former district administration, built-in 1882 by the Austrian architect Friedrich Grünanger.

The museum's mission is to enrich and expand knowledge about the local tangible and intangible cultural heritage, creating conditions for the development of dialogue with the audience and the opportunity for their participation in the presentation of cultural heritage. The museum presents contemporary cultural and social phenomena, it is open to the public and dedicated to current and future generations.
